The wind continued from a north-easterly direction and picked up in strength throughout the day. Another busy day of ringing with 345 birds ringed, including another Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare). Six Hen Harrier (Blå kärrhök) were seen migrating as were over 100 Sparrowhawk (Sparvhök). A Great Grey Shrike (Varfågel) was around Bredmar and a Peregrine Falcon (Pilgrimsfalk) flew north.

A truly unforgettable day of migration! A continuous stream of flocks of hundreds of finches flew south throughout the day and hundreds of Robins (Rödhake) and Goldcrests (Kungsfågel) also migrated through. 641 birds were ringed, from when nets were opened at 0600 when the rain stopped, until 1800 when we finally closed them. The majority were Goldcrest (Kungsfågel), of which 329 were ringed, as well as these we controlled one with an Estonian ring! New ringing day records for Landsort were set for Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare) with seven ringed and Meadow Pipit (Ängspiplärka) with 15 ringed.

Two Rustic Bunting (Videsparv) were seen migrating from the north this morning, and a flock of six Waxwing (Sidensvans) migrated north up the island. At least two Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare) were present.

A Great Grey Shrike (Varfågel) was at Fågelstationen mid-morning, two Red-breasted Flycatcher (Mindre flugsnappare) were in the village and up to five Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare) were seen throughout the island.

Migration highlights from Södra Udden included: 279 Sparrowhawk (Sparvhök), 32 Rough-legged Buzzard (Fjällvråk), 1700 Cormorant (Storskarv), 1 Red-throated Pipit (Rödstrupig piplärka), 4 Merlin (Stenfalk), two Hobby (Lärkfalk), one Grey Plover (Kustpipare) and one Peregrine Falcon (Pilgrimsfalk), a Golden Eagle (Kungsörn) was seen distantly over Torö.

The day started foggy and calm, with the fog finally lifting around 11:00 and wind picking up throughout the day. In contrast to yesterday, only 21 birds were ringed. When the fog had lifted it became quite good for raptor migration with a number of Honey Buzzard (Bivråk), Hobby (Lärkfalk), Merlin (Stenfalk) and two Osprey (Fiskgjuse).

Udden and returned north, while a flock of five Caspian Terns (Skräntärna) flew southwest early-afternoon.

A Pilgrimsfalk/Peregrine falcon was going south along the west coast mid morning.

The overnight wind had calmed by the earlier hours of the day and all the nets were open this morning. It was quite busy with subsequent encounters of birds that had been banded before the windy weather over the weekend. The majority of these had gained fat in the time since they had been banded.

Vismig was quieter. Sädesärla/white wagtail were heard but not seen coming out of roost from Bredmar reedbed in the half-light, a flock of Grönsiska/siskin were feeding around the Fågelstation throughout the morning, two Sparvhök/sparrowhawk were hunting around the Fågelstation and an additional five were circling to gain height then went South mid-morning.

A windy day and the number of nets opened were limited by this. 50 birds were ringed this morning including the first Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare) of the autumn, the earliest record for Landsort and as far as we know the first record in Sweden this year! 55 Wigeon (Bläsand) migrated west this morning.

115 birds were ringed today including a Wood Warbler (Grönsångare). Five Ringed Plover (Större Strandpipare) flew east over Fågelstationen late morning and two Kestrel (Tornfalk) were present.

An incredible day of seaduck migration, with some of the highest recorded counts of Velvet Scoter (Svärta) and Common Scoter (Sjöorre) on Landsort, there were 3108 of the former and 2068 of the latter recorded between 0440 and 0610 this morning. At 0720 an adult male Stejneger’s Scoter (Sibirisk Knölsvärta) was found among a close group of Velvets, the first record for Södermanland and 9th for Sweden! Also recorded were 31 Barnacle Goose (Vitkindad gås), 248 Long-tailed Duck (Alfågel), 993 Eider (Ejder), 173 Red-breasted Merganser (Småskrake), 19 Red-throated Diver (Storlom), 11 Black-throated Diver (Smålom), 11 Red-necked Grebe (Gråhakedopping), two Great Crested Grebe (Skäggdopping), 81 Oystercatcher (Strandskata), 22 Whimbrel (Småspov), 44 Curlew (Storspov) and seven Baltic Gull (Silltrut). 48 birds were ringed at Bredmar including the first Wryneck (Göktyta) of the year.
