224 birds were ringed this morning including another Great Grey Shrike (Varfågel), a Tree Pipit (Trädpiplärka) and a Spotted Flycatcher (Grå flugsnappare). Today we also passed 6000 birds ringed this year and 2000 birds in September, a good way to end the month. A first attempt trying out the new moth trap this evening was thwarted by a sudden squally rain shower after which the wind picked up to a brisk westerly.

Rain set in this morning and continued most of the day. A good number of grounded migrants were present and 168 birds were ringed before the rain set in this morning, including the first Great Grey Shrike (Varfågel) of the year. The Siberian Chffchaff (Siberisk gransångare) ringed on 25th was retrapped. A Penduline Tit (Pungmes) was heard and seen around Bredmar and a Hen Harrier (Blå kärrhök) flew south.

A breezy but clear start to the day becoming cloudy late afternoon. The first jorduggla/short-eared owl of the autumn for Landsort was seen in the afternoon, blå kärrhök/hen harrier was also noted and a mindre flugsnappare/red-brested flycatcher was north along the lane from the Fågelstation.

A clear and warm day. A quieter day for grounded birds but there was an increase of bofink/chaffinch, Blåmes/blue tit and talgoxe/great tit feeding around the Fågelstation. Also at the Fågelstation a tree pipit with two more individuals at Saltmar.

Vismig noted during the morning, going south 20 sparvhök/sparrowhawk, 7 tornfalk/kestrel and 5 fjällvråk/rough-legged buzzard that initially went south and then returned north.

A chill in the air this morning following a clear night, even a little frost in the more sheltered areas, then clouding over by daybreak.

Four nötskrika/jay were quite vocal in the trees around the Fågelstation for a couple of hours during the morning, which are the first seen here this year, although the stare/starlings had almost convinced us nötskrika/jay were present during the spring. Vismig was quieter, two sparvhök/sparrowhawk went south early morning, 24 ängspiplärka/meadow pipit and 18 bofink/chaffinch also went south over the course of the morning.

A cool, clear and breezy morning. New sightings for the autumn were two blå kärrhök/hen harrier going south on the west coast mid morning. Late morning a fjällvråk/rough-legged buzzard went north over the Fågelstation. During migration watch at the north of the island a varfågel/great grey shrike and flock of 6 rödvingetrast/redwing were also the first for the autumn on Landsort. During the afternoon a stenfalk/merlin went north along the east coast.

Also seen during the morning, a hummingbird hawkmoth was feeding from the late flowers on the honeysuckle at the Fågelstation.

The key feature of today was an impressive raptor passage, with the following migrating south past the obs: 63 Sparrowhawk (Sparvhök), 15 Kestrel (Tornfalk), 5 Honey Buzzard (Bivråk), 1 Marsh Harrier (Brun kärrhök) and one Hobby (Lärkfalk). Also present were 16 White-tailed Eagles (Havsörn), 1 Goshawk (Duvhök) and 1 Osprey (Fiskgjuse) present around the island.

A Honey Buzzard (Bivråk) was seen migrating south from the north end this morning, as were two Peregrine Falcons (Pilgrimsfalk). An Osprey (Fiskgjuse) was seen this morning at the north, and either the same or a different bird was seen at Saltmar this afternoon. A Goshawk (Duvhök) was at Våta Väggen and two Marsh Harrier (Brun kärrhök) flew south over the obs.

Rain overnight gave way to a foggy morning with very light easterlies. It was another good day of migration and in the afternoon as the fog began to lift 90 Wheatear (Stenskvätta) were counted along the coast to the south of the obs. At Södra Udden the first Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare) of the autumn, and one of the first seen in Sweden this autumn was seen in a valley to the south of the lighouse for about 10 minutes. A Slavonian Grebe (Svarthakedopping) was off Jutvik. 30 birds were ringed including a Sparrowhawk (Sparvhök) and a Sedge Warbler (Sävsångare), as well as four Wheatear (Stenskvätta), the first caught since spring.

The first fine and still morning we can remember in some time, although that deteriorated throughout the day giving way to cold squally conditions by evening. 31 birds were ringed this morning, including another late Red-backed Shrike (Törnskata) and the second Woodcock (Morkulla) of the year, along with small numbers of other expected autumn migrants. Throughout the morning a good southbound passage took place and 622 White Wagtails (Sädesärla) went south as did 7 Sparrowhawk (Sparvhök). The still conditions last night provided a good opportunity to put out the sound recorder for the first time to record nocturnal migration. Analysis of the sonogram showed up very little migration other than a surprise Spotted Flycatcher (Grå flugsnappare), which flew over at 23:40 yesterday, as well as a couple of Common Snipe (Enkelbeckasin).

11 birds were ringed this morning, the number of open nets was restricted by westerly winds throughout the morning which picked up further into the evening. Only a few migrants were noted today; two Marsh Harriers (Brun kärrhök) and two Kestrel (Tornfalk) flew south over the obs during the morning, while a Grey Plover (Kustsnäppa) flew west.

A day of blustery southeasterlies and little migration, although a few waders, terns and ducks were seen migrating past the lighthouse this morning. Eight birds were ringed this morning.
