18th July 2018

Nets opened at 0415 and closed at 1145 with 26 new birds of 14 species.

These included an adult female Woodcock (Morkulla), the 14th trapped at the Obs and the first since June 2007. Todays bird was flushed from the reeds early in the morning, giving a distraction display, with audible young nearby. Was caught in the net on the next net-round.

Also of note was the catching of 11 Starling (Stare), an autumn day record for the Obs: part of a much larger flock that were feeding on cherries near the canopy nets.

A guided talk given from 1130 until 1245 to six adults and 2 youngsters.

There will be two at the Obs overnight: Chris & Kay.
