Another windy day, only more sheltered nets were opened this morning. Two birds were ringed. A Hawfinch (Stenknäck) flew in from the south and landed in trees at Bredmar at 0700 and a Shelduck (Gravand) flew west at 1100.
A breezy day with wind picking up throughout, the number of nets opened was limited by this. Eight birds were ringed. A Hobby (Lärkfalk) was present around Bredmar and a Poplar Hawk-moth (Poppelsvärmare) was caught in the trap.
Nets were not opened until after the rain cleared at around 5am today, seven birds were ringed. 120 Swift (Tornseglare) were seen over Fågelstationen between rain showers this morning and the Siberian Chiffchaff (Sibirisk gransångare) was again singing around Bredmar. A Privet Hawk-moth (Ligustersvärmare) was caught in the trap and there was a Lobster Moth (Ekorrspinnare) on one of the net poles.

A strong easterly breeze to start the day and rain on the radar delayed the nets being opened until 7am, when the much needed rain had stopped. During the shower 6 tofsvipa/lapwing landed on the field to the north of the Fågelstation, they then continued north later in the morning. A total of 21 Lapwing were seen during the morning, all going north. There was a Sibirisk gransångare/Siberian chiffchaff singing near the Fågelstation after dawn and 24 mindre korsnäbb/red crossbill were migrating west mid morning.

21 birds were ringed at Bredmar this morning including a juvenile Crested Tit (Tofsmes), this is the sixth to be ringed on Landsort, with the last in 2018; the species is not known to breed on Landsort but occasional birds wander down here from the mainland. In addition, eight Great Tit (Talgoxe) chicks were ringed in nestboxes. The Siberian Chiffchaff (Sibirisk Gransångare) was singing again at Bredmar and one of yesterday’s birds was recaptured. 35 Common Crossbill (Mindre korsnäbb) were present around Bredmar this morning. Two Greenish Warbler (Lundsångare) were singing at Våta Vägen.
13 birds were ringed at Bredmar this morning, with an additional 13 Great Tit (Talgoxe) chicks ringed in nestboxes. A Siberian Chiffchaff (Sibirisk gransångare) was found singing by Fyren this morning and one was later heard at Fågelstationen, where two were subsequently ringed.

A Greenish Warbler (Lundsångare) was singing at Våta Vägen and a Lapwing (Tofsvipa) and a Whimbrel (Småspov) flew over Jutvik early afternoon. A flock of 19 Common Crossbill (Mindre korsnäbb) were flying around this morning and six more were seen at Batteri this evening.

A clear and sunny day with a brisk northeasterly wind picking up through the afternoon. 24 birds were ringed this morning including six Siskin (Grönsiska), a species we have caught very few of so far this year.
14 birds were ringed this morning including the third Blyth’s Reed Warbler (Busksångare) of the spring. Four Jay (Nötskrika) migrated south this morning over Fågelstationen and an Avocet (Skärfläcka) was seen migrating south down the east coast this afternoon.

23 birds were ringed this morning including two Jackdaw (Kaja) fledglings. From Södra Udden this morning a Red-footed Falcon (Aftonfalk) flew north, two Avocet (Skärfläcka) flew west and two Sandwich Tern (Kentsk tärna) were seen flying over Stångskär.

Strong wind this morning prevented any nets being opened. A Wood Warbler (Grönsångare) was at Fårhagen this morning and a Caspian Tern (Skräntärna) flew over Bredmar late afternoon.
A much more unsettled day, with wind picking up significantly during the afternoon. A noticeable arrival of migrant passerines occurred and 36 birds were ringed, including a Nightjar (Nattskärra) on the first net round, the fourth ringed on Landsort and first since 2013. A Red-breasted Flycatcher (Mindre flugsnappare) and a Siberian Chiffchaff (Sibirisk gransångare) were at Södra Udden this morning and a Pomerine Skua (Bredstjärtad labb) migrated northeast.

Nine birds were ringed at Bredmar this morning and an additional 36 Great Tit (Talgoxe) and 3 Blue Tit (Blåmes) chicks were ringed in nestboxes. This evening a Stejneger’s/Siberian Stonechat (Amur/Vitgumpad Buskskvätta – Saxicola maurus/stejnegeri) was found foraging at Saltmar, it has not yet been identified to species – there is only one accepted record of Stejnegeri on Landsort and none of maurus, along with several other undetermined records.

Clear skies and light wind again today. 11 birds were ringed including the first Swallow (Ladusvala) of the year, also caught was a Lesser Whitethroat (Ärtsångare) which was originally ringed in 2014 as a second year bird, making this it’s seventh year! Sightings from Södra Udden this morning included 220 Grey Plover (Kustpipare), 120 Knot (Kustsnäppa), 94 Dunlin (Kärrsnäppa), 130 Velvet Scoter (Svärta), 102 Common Scoter (Sjöorre) and a White-billed Diver (Vitnäbbad islom).

55 birds were ringed this morning including the first Greenish Warbler (Lundsångare) of the year. In nestboxes two Starling (Stare) chicks and the first 19 Great Tit (Talgoxe) chicks of the year were ringed. A Greenish Warbler (Lundsångare) was at Södra Udden this morning.

A quiet day for migration with 12 new birds ringed, these included the second Blyth’s Reed Warbler (Busksångare) of the year (the 18th ringed on Landsort). A Red-necked Phalarope (Smånäbbad simmsnäppa) was seen migrating at Södra Udden this morning and a White-fronted Goose (Bläsgås) was resting on Stångskär this evening.
38 birds were ringed this morning including two Red-breasted Flycatcher (Mindre flugsnappare), the 6th and 7th of the year. The first real wader migration occurred this morning with several flocks of Dunlin (Kärrsnäppa), Grey Plover (Kustpipare) and Knot (Kustsnäppa) migrating north. Three Nightjar (Nattskärre) also migrated in off the sea this morning.
25 birds were ringed this morning. The first Greenish Warbler (Lundsångare) of the year was heard near Våta Vägen and a Honey Buzzard (Bivråk) migrated north late morning, the second of the spring.

A clear and warm day. 59 birds were ringed including a Blyth’s Reed Warbler (Busksångare), the 17th ringed on Landsort and first since 2018. 13 more Starling (Stare) chicks were also ringed in nestboxes. A Jay (Nötskrika) flew south over Fågelstationen this morning. An Eyed Hawk-moth (Videsvärmare) was caught in the moth trap last night and a Puss Moth (Större gaffelsvans) was on a net pole.

A foggy day, although it brightened up a bit
in the late morning and afternoon. 34 birds were ringed at Bredmar this morning
including the first Scarlet Rosefinch
(Rosenfink) of the year. During the afternoon the first 28 Starling (Stare) chicks of the year were ringed from nestboxes in
the north of the island. A Water Rail
(Vattenrall) was calling throughout the morning from Bredmar, presumably the
bird that was holding territory earlier in the spring although we haven’t heard
it for a few weeks.

After clear start it soon clouded over and remained that way throughout the day, the wind was also up from yesterday and some nets were not opened, it rained on/off for most of the afternoon. 20 birds were ringed. From Södra Udden two Kittiwake (Tretåig mås) migrated east as did one (plus a probable second) White-billed Diver (Vitnäbbad islom), 507 Guillemot (Sillgrissla) and 86 Razorbill (Tordmule).

84 birds were ringed this morning including the first Red-breasted Flycatcher (Mindre flugsnappare) of the year. There was one foreign control – a Spanish-ringed Garden Warbler (Trädgårdssångare). The first Marsh Warbler (Kärrsångare) of the year was in bushes east of the lighthouse this morning. Also present at the south were: three Rosefinch (Rosenfink), one Bluethroat (Blåhake), one Red-breasted Flycatcher (Mindre flugsnappare), three Whinchat (Buskskvätta), eight Yellow Wagtail (Gulärla), four Tree Pipit (Trädpiplärka) and a Swift (Tornseglare). A Cuckoo (Gök) and four Whinchat (Buskskvätta) were at Saltmar this afternoon.
