111 birds were ringed this morning including the second Pallas’s Warbler (Kungsfågelsångare) of the autumn and three Arctic Redpoll (Snösiska). There was no sign of any swifts around the south of the island today despite a lot of birders looking.

Two Swifts, either pallid or common (blek/vanlig Tornseglare) were found around the south of the island at around midday, and after checking the photos taken in thick fog this afternoon, it seems that they are Pallid Swifts (Blek tornseglare).

A brisk south-westerly limited the number of nets opened, but this dropped throughout the morning and it was very calm by early afternoon. 72 birds were ringed. An Arctic Redpoll (Snösiska) was with a flock of Redpolls at Fågelstationen this morning. A Black Redstart (Svart rödstjärt) was in the village, a Peregrine Falcon (Pilgrimsfalk) flew south and a late Swallow (Ladusvala) flew north. A Water Rail (Vattenrall) was heard at Bredmar this evening.

A Black Redstart (Svart Rödstjärt) was in the village while a Goshawk (Duvhök) was around the south of the island.

This morning we broke the previous year record for Landsort set in 2014 when 11,900 birds were ringed. As of today, 12,256 birds have been ringed in 2020, with several weeks still to go! 356 birds were ringed today including two Great Grey Shrike (Varfågel). In addition, we caught a Blue Tit (Blåmes) with a Polish ring and a Lesser Redpoll (Brunsiska) with a Norwegian ring!

Incoming rain from the south meant we had to close the nets we had open by 0800, which is reflected in the low ringing figures with 43 birds ringed. A Great Grey Shrike (Varfågel) was at Kasberget mid-morning and a Marsh Harrier (Brun kärrhök) flew over, a Short-eared Owl (Jorduggla) was flushed from the west coast by Södra Lunden. A flock of 21 Bean Geese (Sädgäss) migrated southwest early afternoon.

A Pallas’s Warbler (Kungsfågelsångare) was seen south of Fågelstationen, and another or the same bird was still present in the Village around the chapel. A Little Bunting (Dvärgsparv) and a Hawfinch (Stenknäck) flew south over Fågelstationen this morning and four Pink-footed Geese (Spetsbergsgäs) were seen migrating this evening.

A windy day with only five nets opened this morning, nonetheless there were still a lot of crests about and we ringed 74 birds, including a Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare). The Pallas’s Warbler (Kungsfågelsångare) was still present in the village. A large passage of White-fronted Geese (Bläsgäs) migrated down the east coast, and among a group that migrated over Fågelstationen were three Lesser White-fronted Goose (Fjällgås). A Lapland Bunting (Lappsparv) was present circled several times on the west coast and landed on the east coast.

The first Great Grey Shrike (Varfågel) of the autumn was also ringed. In the village a Pallas’s Warbler (Kungsfågelsångare) was present around the chapel and seen sporadically during the morning and afternoon, and at one point was in the same small bush as a Red-flanked Bluetail (Tajgablåstjärt) which briefly put in an appearance this afternoon!

Another day with incredible migration throughout the day. 624 birds were ringed of which the majority (473) were Goldcrest (Kungsfågel), a late Garden Warbler (Trädgårdssångare) was also caught. A Red-flanked Bluetail (Tajgablåstjärt) was present in the village at Öbergs trädgård where it showed well throughout the afternoon. 1645 Barnacle Goose (Vitkindad gås) and 80 White-fronted Goose (Bläsgås) migrated southwest.

A windier day and thus only more sheltered nets were opened, and several more were closed as the wind picked up throughout the day. 457 birds were ringed, of which the majority (269) were Goldcrest (Kungsfågel), also ringed were two Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare). Several flocks of Barnacle Goose (Vitkindade gås) amounting to 1566 birds migrated southwest along with 18 Brent Goose (Prutgås). A Red-flanked Bluetail (Tajga blåstjärt) was found late morning at Södra Udden and a Bluethroat (Blåhake) was seen there during the evening.
