30 birds were ringed this morning, the nets were restricted to more sheltered ones due to westerly winds. The key feature of today was an impressive raptor passage, with the following migrating south past the obs: 63 Sparrowhawk (Sparvhök), 15 Kestrel (Tornfalk), 5 Honey Buzzard (Bivråk), 1 Marsh Harrier (Brun kärrhök) and one Hobby (Lärkfalk). Also present were 16 White-tailed Eagles (Havsörn), 1 Goshawk (Duvhök) and 1 Osprey (Fiskgjuse) present around the island.

Due to a westerly gale overnight with strong winds continuing all day, no nets were opened. A Honey Buzzard (Bivråk) was seen migrating south from the north end this morning, as were two Peregrine Falcons (Pilgrimsfalk). An Osprey (Fiskgjuse) was seen this morning at the north, and either the same or a different bird was seen at Saltmar this afternoon. A Goshawk (Duvhök) was at Våta Väggen and two Marsh Harrier (Brun kärrhök) flew south over the obs.

Rain overnight gave way to a foggy morning with very light easterlies. It was another good day of migration and in the afternoon as the fog began to lift 90 Wheatear (Stenskvätta) were counted along the coast to the south of the obs. At Södra Udden the first Yellow-browed Warbler (Tajgasångare) of the autumn, and one of the first seen in Sweden this autumn was seen in a valley to the south of the lighouse for about 10 minutes. A Slavonian Grebe (Svarthakedopping) was off Jutvik. 30 birds were ringed including a Sparrowhawk (Sparvhök) and a Sedge Warbler (Sävsångare), as well as four Wheatear (Stenskvätta), the first caught since spring.

The first fine and still morning we can remember in some time, although that deteriorated throughout the day giving way to cold squally conditions by evening. 31 birds were ringed this morning, including another late Red-backed Shrike (Törnskata) and the second Woodcock (Morkulla) of the year, along with small numbers of other expected autumn migrants. Throughout the morning a good southbound passage took place and 622 White Wagtails (Sädesärla) went south as did 7 Sparrowhawk (Sparvhök). The still conditions last night provided a good opportunity to put out the sound recorder for the first time to record nocturnal migration. Analysis of the sonogram showed up very little migration other than a surprise Spotted Flycatcher (Grå flugsnappare), which flew over at 23:40 yesterday, as well as a couple of Common Snipe (Enkelbeckasin).

Hussvala/house martin and ladusvala/barn swallow were circling high and feeding, flocks of gulärla/yellow wagtail and sädesärla/white wagtail were migrating south, two mindre korsnäbbred/common crossbill were also going south and a female sparvhök/sparrowhawk was hunting around the Fågelstation.

Overnight was clear, as dawn approached the sky became heavily overcast and it did not get completely light until after 6am. Skräntärna/Caspian tern were seen in the south during the morning. Bläsand/wigeon, kricka/teal, stjäartand/pintail and svärta/velvet scoter were seen going west over the island in the north throughout the morning and a videsparv/rustic bunting was to the south of the Fågelstation.

Overnight blustery westerly wind calmed at daybreak for a clear sunny day. Vismig picked up through the morning with trädpiplärka/tree pipit and gulärla/yellow wagtail seen going south and several sparvhök/sparrowhawk were noted through the day. An Ortolansparv/Ortolan bunting was seen going north mid morning and a videsparv/rustic bunting was to the south of the Fågelstation, both of these species have declined dramtically in recent years. Light passage offshore included three Skräntärna/Caspian tern, noted going southwest.

During the afternoon fourteen getingspindel/wasp spiders were found in Bredmar and an additional four at Saltmar were the first seen there this year.

Overcast and blustery winds from the west prevented any ringing activity today. During seawatch on the east coast migration was observed throughout the day with over 800 waders recorded going south. In summary there were, 324 strandskata/oystercatcher, 78 kustpipare/grey plover, 250 kustsnäppa/red knot, 1 sandlöpare/sanderling, 7 spovsnäppa/curlew sandpiper and 129 kärrsnäppa/dunlin. Also noted going south were the first dvärgmås/little gull for the year at Landsort, a juvenile in the morning and an adult and juvenile during the afternoon and a flock of 14 skedand/shoveler. Gulärla/yellow wagtail were seen at Saltmar, a female sparvhök/sparrowhawk was hunting gluttsnäppa/greenshank over the water in Saltmar and 60 hussvala were going south over the island.

The first day
ringing for a while due to the blustery conditions over the past few days. 52
birds were ringed, including 11 Tree Pipits (Trädpiplerka), a number equalling the
day record set in May 2007. As well as these birds a significant number more
were migrating straight over during the morning. A Greater White-fronted Goose (Bläsgås)
migrated over this morning and a Black Tern (Svarttärna) went south past
Vadarbunkern. This evening, a small selection of waders migrated south past here,
as well as a flock containing 4 Pintail (Stjärtand) and 3 Wigeon (Bläsand).

started with strong southerlies and these gradually dropped off throughout the
day. No ringing took place due to the wind. Migrating south past Vadarbunkern
between 09:10 and 11:00 were 27 Bar-tailed Godwit (Myrspov), 10 Grey Plover
(Kustpipare), 134 Oystercatcher (Strandskata), five Whimbrel (Småspov), two Knot
(Kustsnäppa), 40 Dunlin (Kärrsnäppa), one Curlew Sandpiper (Spovsnäppa), one
Ringed Plover (Större strandpipare), one Redshank (Rödbena), one Caspian Tern

(Silltrut). There was much less movement there this evening although two
Turnstones (Roskarl) flew south.

The day
started off calm but the wind gradually picked up to a brisk southerly by the
afternoon. Nine birds were ringed. A Greenish Warbler (Lundsångare) was seen briefly
in a feeding flock around Bredmar this morning. Migrating south past
Vadarbunkern this evening were 39 Oystercatcher (Strandskata), 16 Ringed Plover
(Större strandpipare), three Dunlin (Kärrsnäppa) and six Whimbrel (Småspov), a juvenile Cuckoo (Gök) was also
present.
