2nd May 2020

115 birds were ringed on a calm morning today, with a marked change in species composition to a majority of sub-saharan (rather than short-distance) migrants for the first time, these included several firsts for the year including a Sedge Warbler (Sävsångare), a Whitethroat (Törnsångare), a Wood Warbler (Grönsångare) and two Collared Flycatcher (Halsbandsflugsnappare). News from a morning migration watch at Södra Udden this morning was of ANOTHER Stejneger’s Scoter (Sibirisk knölsvärta) photographed migrating past with Velvet Scoter (Svärta)! Lots of migrants were scattered across the island this afternoon, with good numbers of Whinchat (Buskskvätta), Redstart (Rödstjärt) and Pied Flycatcher (Svartvit flugsnappare) among others. A Cuckoo (Gök) was calling throughout the morning from Södra Lunden and was heard again further north during the afternoon. A Hobby (Lärkfalk) migrated north over Fågelstationen late morning.
